An increase in the inter-recti distance puts these functions in jeopardy, such as what happens during pregnancy and postpartum, which is called Diastasis Recti Abdominis. (DRA)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is it?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diastasis Recti is an imbalance in the pressure system of the abdominal cavity which causes the connective tissue (linea alba) running down the centreline from the base of the rib cage to the pubic symphysis (bone) to overstretch and the muscles known as the Rectus Abdominis (6 pack) to separate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What causes it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DRA occurs due to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Hormonal elastic changes of the connective tissue<\/li><li>Mechanical stresses placed on the abdominal wall by the growing fetus.<\/li><li>Displacement of the abdominal organs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can I avoid DRA during pregnancy?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DRA have been reported ranging from 66% to 100% during the third trimester of pregnancy. Therefore, there is no clear answer to this question because it is normal that happens during pregnancy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So we try to reduce its impact by focusing on:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Activation and strengthening the core muscles.<\/li><li>Activating the diaphragm muscle through breathing exercises.<\/li><li>Activating and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.<\/li><li>Prober preforming activates of daily living.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can I know that I have DRA?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are signs that may appear, but their presence is not necessarily that you have it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Feeling of a space between the muscles of the abdomen or a protrusion.<\/li><li>Weakness \/ prolapse of the pelvic floor muscles.<\/li><li>Pain in the lower back.<\/li><li>Constipation and difficulty passing out.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it is advised to review a physiotherapist specialized in women&#8217;s health for a comprehensive examination and to give an appropriate program for your condition and to ensure the presence of DRA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will the distance\/Space return after birth?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studies have shown that stretching can continue for 53% immediately after birth. But usually the distance between the straight muscles of the abdomen returns naturally after childbirth within 8 weeks to 3 months, but it varies from body to body. And DRA may last up to 12 months at a rate of 36%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But remember!<\/strong> It is important that you pay attention to your entire body and strengthen your muscles during your pregnancy and after childbirth more than just thinking about the distance and closing the muscle gap, and we are here to help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Statistics based on studies:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DRAM most commonly occurs during and post pregnancy and its reported incidence varies between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>66% to 100% of women have diastasis recti in the 3rd trimester<\/li><li>53% of women have diastasis recti immediately postpartum<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>36% of women continue to have diastasis recti 7 weeks postpartum<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section
